A couple of other minor problems that we commonly see that result in skin and soft tissue injuries are what I call the 3 Ts: trauma from exercise and sports equipment results in injury to unsupervised children, treadmills, as part of our exercise craze, have resulted in a number of abrasions, burns and amputations and ATVs, especially in Michigan, can rollover resulting in closed head injuries, fractures and death. But what we see them for are the avulsion injuries.

On a national basis, there are 6500 deaths from ATVs with 31% being in children < 16 years of age and 13% are under 12. Michigan is number four in the US in the frequency of ATV injuries. 10% of these kids have serious injuries with hospital length of stays > 8 days and 12-20% will have injury severity scores > 17.
